The following estimates were compiled by the American Foundation for the Blind
(2001).
According to data collected from the National Health Interview Survey on Disability,
40 45% of people age 18 to 69 years who have a vision impairment (serious
difficulty seeing even with glasses or contact lenses) or are legally blind are
employed.
An estimated 30% of legally blind persons age 18 to 69 years of age are employed.
Not including persons who are legally blind, 45% of individuals age 18 to 69 who
have a visual impairment (serious difficulty seeing even with glasses or contact
lenses) are employed.
