Confined Spaces  

Section 1   Introduction 

Engineer and another is to be placed in the Confined Space Register. If the 

MOD has to undertake work on a confined space at the point of 

demarcation the Authorised Person is to obtain a Permit to Work or other 

appropriate document from the contractor before issuing a Permit to Work 

under these Safety Rules and Procedures.

When it is known that the MOD is to accept responsibility for a new 

facility, the Property Manager is to inform the Maintenance Management 

Organisation (see CER) and the Authorising Engineer is to nominate an 

Authorised Person for the new facility. The contractor is to nominate a 

person to familiarise the prospective Authorised Person with any potential 

confined space working.  Sufficient time must be allowed before 

acceptance from the contractor to ensure the Authorised Person has 

become familiar with the new facility.
