Role of Co ordinating Authorising Engineers
2.2.1
The Co ordinating Authorising Engineer is responsible for co ordinating
the actions of Authorising Engineers, within the area of appointment.
Duties of Co ordinating Authorising Engineers
2.2.2
Act as a focal point for health and safety information and other guidance
relating to Authorising Engineers.
2.2.3
Audit the performance of other Authorising Engineers.
2.2.4
Oversee the work of consultants engaged as, or deputising for
Authorising
Engineers.
2.2.5
Ensure adequate support is available for Authorising Engineers including
deputising arrangements and administration support.
2.3
AUTHORISING
ENGINEERS
Role of Authorising Engineers
2.3.1
Within the area of appointment the Authorising Engineer is responsible for
implementing, administering, monitoring and auditing the application of
these Safety Rules and Procedures.
Duties of Authorising Engineers
2.3.2.
Appoint a sufficient number of Authorised Persons to provide the
necessary cover for confined spaces in each establishment.
2.3.3
Nominate and appoint in writing one Authorised Person as the
Co ordinating Authorised Person for each Establishment or geographical
area.
2.3.4 Nominate and appoint in writing one Authorised Person to deputise for each
Co ordinating Authorised Person.
2.3.5
Ensure that prospective Authorised Persons:

satisfy the qualification requirements
n
satisfy the training and familiarisation requirements
n
can demonstrate adequate knowledge of the types of confined space
for which authorisation is required
n
have attended a satisfactory interview with the Authorising Engineer
or a nominated representative before appointment or re appointment.
2.3.6
Issue to each Authorised Person, on appointment, a Certificate of
Appointment as an Authorised Person valid for a period not exceeding
four years.
