Section 2 Roles and Duties
2.6.1
The Person in Charge is responsible for directly controlling the entry into a
confined space.
Duties of Persons in Charge
2.6.2
Ensure that all necessary safety equipment is available, suitable and safe
for use, and in good working order,
prior to entry into the confined space.
2.6.3
Ensure that adequate emergency arrangements are in place before
commencing the work.
2.6.4
Carry out "pre entry" gas testing and complete the appropriate section in
the Permit to Work.
2.6.5
Report to the Authorised Person any accident, dangerous occurrence,
defects found or incidents occurring during occupation of the confined
space.
2.6.6
Ensure that the only work carried out is that for which written instruction
has been received.
2.6.7
Follow the Authorised Person's instructions and ensure all work is carried
out in accordance with these Safety Rules and Procedures. The Person in
Charge is to take all safety measures necessary to avoid danger and
prevent injury.
2.6.8
Be fully conversant and able to ensure compliance with the conditions set
out in the Permit to Work and agreed Safety Method Statement.
2.6.9
Stop work and withdraw all personnel, tools, plant and equipment if for
any reason the conditions of the Permit to Work or Safety Method
Statement cannot be met.
2.6.10
Ensure that all members of the Work Team are adequately trained and
medically fit to carry out the work required. Evidence of the fitness and
training of the Work Team must be provided if requested by the
Authorised Person.
2.6.11
Ensure that the Work Team are aware of the safe methods of work, the
means of communication, the emergency arrangements and the
requirements of these Safety Rules and Procedures.
2.6.12
Always be present at the work site when any work is being carried out.

Duties of the Work Team
2.7.1
Work in accordance with these Safety Rules and Procedures.
2.7.2
Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and of an
other person who may be affected by their actions or omissions.
2.7.3
Only use equipment for which they have been trained and in the manner in
which they have trained.
2.7.4
Report to the Person in Charge any defects found.
