Appointment of the Person in Charge 

3.7.3  

The prospective Person in Charge is nominated in writing by their 

employer and assessed by the Authorised Person. 

3.7.4  

The designated person will be named on the Permit to Work and Safety 

Method Statement by the Authorised Person and becomes the Person in 

Charge after accepting and signing the Permit to Work or Safety Method 

Statement for Low Risk confined spaces 

3.8  

WORK 

TEAM

3.8.1  

The Work Team are to be nominated in writing by their employer, 

assessed by the Authorised Person and, if acceptable, listed on the Safety 

Method Statement. 

3.8.2  

One member of the team entering the confined space is to be nominated as 

the team leader by the Person in Charge.  The Person in Charge may take 

on the role of team leader. 

3.8.3  

All members shall: 

n 

be competent to carry out the role and duties for which they have 

been designated 

n 

be familiar with the type of work that they will be required to carry 

out 

n 

possess the necessary knowledge, skill and experience relevant to the 

individuals role and duties for the work to be done 

n 

have successfully undertaken training which is acceptable to the 

Authorised Person and suitable for the work to be done 

n 

possess adequate knowledge of these Safety Rules and Procedures 

n 

hold a current Emergency First Aid certificate.
