8.1  

AUTHORISING 

ENGINEERS 

8.1.1  

 Engineers are required to: 

n 

have formal engineering or professional training 

n 

have completed successfully a MOD approved Authorised Person 

(Confined Spaces) training course 

n 

have completed successfully an MOD approved Authorising 

Engineer training course 

n 

attend and complete successfully MOD approved Authorised Person 

(Confined Spaces) refresher training courses at intervals not 

exceeding three years 

n 

attend and complete successfully MOD approved Authorising 

Engineer training courses at intervals not exceeding four years 

n 

be trained as appointed persons for the administration of Emergency 

First Aid under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations and be 

regularly retrained in Emergency First Aid to comply with these 

Regulations 

n 

undertake a period of training under the supervision of the Co 

ordinating Authorising Engineer to gain knowledge of the practical 

application of these Safety Rules and Procedures and to become 

familiar with the types of confined spaces in the appointment. 

8.2  

AUTHORISED 

PERSONS 

8.2.1  

Authorised Persons are required to: 

n 

have formal technical training 

n 

have completed successfully an MOD approved Authorised Person 

(Confined Spaces) training course
